FLIPPER’S PANCAKE – RENOWNED IN JAPAN AND FINALLY IN SINGAPORE

Fluffy Pancakes anyone? Recently, I went to Takashimaya, wanting to get some soufflé pancakes for Brunch.

I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of queue during these COVID times which allowed me so much space to take these photos.

FLIPPER’S PANCAKES

Hailing from Japan, a renowned Japanese soufflé pancake chain, Flipper’s finally brought their pancakes to Singapore.

Their first Southeast Asian store opened in late 2020 and is situated at Takashimaya Shopping Centre.

Flippers offer an assortment of pancakes, both sweet and savoury options.

The sweet pancake flavours include:

  • 5th Anniversary Pancake (SGD 26.80)
  • Kiseki Pancake Fresh Fruit (SGD 21.80)
  • Kiseki Pancake Hazelnut Chocolate (SGD 21.80)
  • Kiseki Pancake Matcha (SGD 19.80)
  • Kiseki Pancake Plain (SGD 16.80)

The Savory Pancakes and Cheese Sandwich which are a lil’ special include:

  • Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Croque Madame)
  • Egg Benedict Soufflé Pancake
  • Honey Chicken Soufflé Pancake

Apart from their Pancakes and Sandwiches, they also offer some salads and Drinks for patrons to sit around and chit chat.

Much like a restaurant, the pancakes are made fresh with every order using simple and hand-selected ingredients from Japan. Such as the Hokkaido Kitahonami wheat flour and Kanagawa Hinata eggs and Milk.

Patrons can see the process of pancakes being made through the glass partition in the café.

The pancakes are then served fresh with 2 forks (0 knives) because Flippers believe that their pancakes are so soft that it is not needed.

TASTE TEST

We got the 5th Anniversary Pancakes which comes in threes. Perfect for each one of us sharing.

Instead of any syrup, it came with some strawberry sauce which we drizzled all over the pancakes. It was also accompanied by fresh strawberries and blueberries. Unlike other pancakes, it also came with a scoop of strawberry ice cream and finished with a dollop of cream on the top.

Surprisingly, the pancakes were not too sweet, so after adding the cream and ice cream, it did not make it too sweet and jelat (to become sick of something after doing it repeatedly).

Pancake texture-wise, the pancakes are light and airy yet they still have a bit of the cakey texture which I love.

Rating 9/10

Since there are so many variations of pancakes, there is bound to be something for everyone.

Another tip, the portion of the pancakes may be too much for one person to handle. So, sharing the pancakes with another friend might be better!

CONCLUSION

I’ve been wanting to try soufflé pancakes and I was very happy with these pancakes. Definitely, would go back to try out other flavours, such as the Kiseki Pancake Hazelnut Chocolate. If you are after soufflé pancakes which are not too sweet then this is definitely a great try!
