Hi, I’m Ryona — and I’m the friend who stayed.
I’m a solo female traveller based in Singapore, and I run RYONANNA.COM, a space for women who want to travel the world on their own terms, without the anxiety of not knowing what they’re walking into.
I cover Asia and Oceania primarily, with a particular obsession with China, Japan and Australia. You’ll find deep-dive destination guides, honest safety breakdowns, and the kind of practical detail that only comes from someone who’s actually been there — not just read about it.

WHY I BLOG
The “Why” Behind The Blog
It started with a friend who bailed.
I’d booked an impulsive trip to Dubai right after locking in Spain — because that’s just how I travel. Everything was fine until my friend suddenly decided to cut the trip short. I was stunned. UAE is expensive and I was counting on splitting costs. Now I had to do it alone? This was not the plan. This was first-year-working Ryona, who, not going to lie, was already broke from every other trip that year.
I did what any semi-rational person would do: I Googled how much it cost to change my flights, decided the answer was too depressing, and then proceeded to girl-maths my way into going anyway. The “change of flight fund” became my hotel fund. The rest, as they say, is history.
That trip gave me everything — the highs, a falcon sitting on my arm in the middle of the desert, and one moment that could have gone very badly and didn’t, because I trusted my gut and got myself out. That was the moment I stopped being scared of travelling alone and started choosing it.
Today, I take solo trips because while I may not always have someone to travel with, I can always count on myself to see the places I want to explore. And if you’re reading this, wondering whether you can do it too, you can. I’m here to make sure you go in prepared.
A NOTE ON HOW I WRITE
I write the way I’d tell a friend. Specific, honest, occasionally very direct about what isn’t worth your time or money. I don’t write posts I wouldn’t use myself, and I don’t recommend things I haven’t tried. If I hated something, I’ll say so. If something blew my mind, you’ll know that too.
