2021 AUGUST BUJO: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE

by | Jul 28, 2021 | BULLET JOURNAL, SELF CARE, UNCATEGORISED | 0 comments

August is such a special month for my country, Singapore. Every August 9th, we would celebrate National Day, sort of like Independence Day.

This was why I wanted to be a bit more patriotic in my spreads this year and opted for some iconic Singapore landmarks. Comment down below the ones that you know of!

This month’s spread was inspired by Behance and Dribbble on Pinterest.

WHAT I USED IN THIS SPREAD

  • Mechanical Pencil (Pilot 2020 Super Grip 0.5) and Eraser for draft work
  • Pigma Micron (01)
  • Marvy Uchida Drawing Pen (005 and 002)
  • Ruler

1. COVER PAGE

This month’s theme is all about Singapore as I mentioned above.

Some of the iconic landmarks which I’ve opted for are the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Flyer, Changi Airport Control Tower.

The sun in the top left corner signifies just how hot Singapore is. Singapore is near the equator, hence it is always tropics all year round.

The typography I’ve chosen this month is this bubble-ish font where the letters are stuck next to each other.

I’ve chosen not to fill it up with any colour this month and I kind of like the way it looks in Black and White (Although, it does not seem that festive).

2. CALENDAR

I’ve chosen a simple calendar this month, where the grid spacings are 3 x 3 for each day. Although, it was a little irritating because there are technically 6 weeks in August if the week starts on Monday. I would have preferred if the amount of space can match the Cover page but a reminder to myself to be too much of a perfectionist.

I’ve included other iconic landmarks here

  • Arts and Science Museum
  • Changi Airport Control Tower
  • Esplanade
  • The Hive – Where my school is situated!
  • Marina Bay Sands
  • The Singapore Flyer
  • Gardens by the Bay

3. HABIT TRACKER

Apart from rearranging some of the things, it is similar to last month’s tracker, continuing with a smaller list of habits to build up.

These are some of the things I wanted to track based on their frequency.

MONTHLY:

Period | Check Sheets | Review my month | Dental Appointment (I’m wearing braces so this is essential)

WEEKLY:

Blog Post | Social (Head out with friends or even all by myself. At least I’ll try to, in this pseudo lockdown that we’re having in Singapore) | My business (Which is now officially launched and you can check it out at @mondayblossomdesigns) | Read (Hopefully a book per week)

DAILY:

Diary (As frequent as I can write) | Water Intake (At least 1.5 litres ) | No Snack | Workout (15 minutes stretches) | Daily Affirmations

I found it very difficult to do my words of affirmation habit in July, so I’ve included a list of affirmations on the next page.

4. AFFIRMATIONS

Affirmations are a huge in-thing now and they are for a good reason. While they make you sound very pompous and self-entitled, they actually generate a lot of positive impact on your mindsets. Or so I’ve heard.

This month, I really want to have a better and more positive state of mind. Especially when I hit setbacks throughout the month.

So, I’ll be sharing with you here, how I would be using this affirmations page. I’ll probably be writing a blog post on this sometime soon.

There are two ways that you can use this list.

  1. Read one every day while looking at the mirror.
  2. Read the entire thing (All 31 lines) daily.

Remember to say these sentences with conviction out loud and look yourself in the eye through the mirror. You should feel so much more encouragement and become more positive throughout the day!

Where I found inspiration for positive affirmations:

There are so many other websites that also give you suggestions, just google “Positive Affirmations”.

I’ll let you guys know how things go in the next blog post!

5. WEEKLY SPREADS

One landmark was chosen for each week of August. Week 1 – Suntec City’s Fountain of Wealth. Week 2 – Sentosa Island. Week 3 – Istana. Week 4 – Esplanade.

The bottom half of both pages is meant for the spreads. As usual, the weekly spread is simple but functional. I leave plenty of space to write down my list of to-dos for each day. The grid spacings for each day are 16 x 8.

I’ve also chosen to focus on 4 things this month, similar to last month – Blog (RYONANNA.COM), Business (@mondayblossomdesigns), others (Things unrelated to my Blog and Business) and Events. These categories are in 8 x 12 grid spacings.

Normally, I would plan out what I need to accomplish for the week and fill it up in the categories. After that, I’ll allocate these tasks for each day of the week. That way, I will know whether I planned too many things in one week. Sometimes, adding lesser things is better than adding more. Otherwise, the stress and burnout can creep up on you. Yikes.

6. DAILY HIGHLIGHTS

Another thing that I wanted to incorporate this month is to keep a list of daily highlights.

So, it means that I would write a one-liner for each day of August. It would be nice to look back at some of the fun activities in August. At the same time, I wanted to hold myself accountable for some of the things that I wanted to accomplish each day. Especially for the days which I want to be productive.

7. MUSINGS AND MEMORIES

Similar to last month as well, memories are used to sum up things that happen in August. It could include words or any photos taken.

Musings are meant more for reflection. A record of what went well and what did not. If it does not work, are there any improvements that can be made?

For example, the daily affirmations this month. I noticed that I don’t upkeep that habit because it was a hassle each day to find affirmations (A lil’ lazy I know). So, I’ve opted to include an affirmation list in my spread this month so that it would be an easy reference page.

And there you have it. Which spread was your favourite this month? I hope that it has inspired you to pick up your BUJO and continue creating!
