by | Jun 23, 2021 | BULLET JOURNAL, SELF CARE, UNCATEGORISED | 0 comments

Migrating into a new journal is always exciting! You’ve probably seen all the beautiful and creative spreads all over Pinterest and Instagram and wonder is BUJO-ing right for you? You may have some questions such as

  • What is a BUJO Spread?
  • How to migrate into a new journal?
  • Which spreads should I try out?
  • Can I have inspiration for my BUJO migration?

Well, I’m here to answer all your question and get your creativity going! And if you’re new to BUJO-ing (Bullet Journaling), welcome to our community!

WHAT IS A BUJO SPREAD?

A bullet journal spread is a collection of pages that are of a related topic. Often, they are on 2 pages so it provides an overview of the topic in discussion.

The special thing about BUJO Spreads is that you can be as creative as you can be. Every BUJO spread is unique to its own creators. Just like a snowflake or your own fingerprints!

HOW TO MIGRATE INTO YOUR NEW JOURNAL OR CREATE A NEW JOURNAL?

Lucky for you, I’ve made a whole guide for you. All you need is 3 simple steps.

  1. Review your current BUJO setup. Creating two lists – new spread and old spread.
  2. Re-organise your lists. Sequence the spreads listed into the 2 lists in Step 1 and re-categorise them.
  3. Get Started. Getting creative in your spreads.

For more details for each step, do read “How to migrate into a new BUJO“. If you are new to BU-JOing, fret not, just read on to find out more about getting started in your first journal!

WHICH SPREADS SHOULD I SET UP?

As a beginner, it can be difficult to decide on what spreads you should set up. That is perfectly normal! I struggle with creativity block every month.

Lucky for you, I found a little trick that can help me with that. Simply look up online creators, especially on Pinterest or Instagram.

Here are some of my favourite creators from Youtube and Instagram

  • @amandarachlee
  • @leelajournals
  • @caitlyndasilva
  • @Reflect with Raksha
  • @ihggs
  • @amizaomar
  • @6.02
  • @mondaymorningdesign
  • And More…

Alternatively, I look up simple doodles. For example, in my June Spread, I stumbled across the astronauts in space images and found a whole collection of similar images. Thus, I’d chosen it for my BUJO spread.

Remember, inspiration only comes if you go searching for it! So, the best is to go ahead and try them out to see if they work for you!

To give you even more inspiration as you set up your journal, I’ve curated this list, which I will be using for the rest of 2021. These are the very spreads that I am using in my new journal setup.

CAN I GET INSPIRATION FOR MY BUJO?

Of course! 101 times yes hehe. I’ve categorised my spreads in these areas.

  • Hobbies (Stocks, F1 Race Calendar)
  • Trackers (Subscriptions, Last I…, Password Hints -Because I forget… a lot, Library)
  • BucketList (Singapore, Australia and Abroad)
  • Self Care (About me, Affirmations, Morning and Night Routines, Period Tracker, The little things)

I’ve included some basic setups specifically Cover Page, Future Logs, Goals, Braindump ideas in this blog post for even more creative inspirations for your BUJO migration/ setup!

1. HOBBIES – STOCKS

One of my goals this year is to be more financially independent. One of the ways is to encourage an alternative revenue stream, where I’ll have a passive income from stocks if I can buy them.

So, this spread is extremely relevant amongst those who are thinking of buying stocks. Disclaimer: Remember to do your homework as I would do such as through using this tracker here.

2. HOBBIES – F1 TRACKER

I am a huge fan of Formula 1 and I look forward to each of the races. I like to keep track of the dates for each race so I can watch them at the right time. For those interested in sports, this is a great spread to keep track of the different games.

3. TRACKER – SUBSCRIPTIONS

Who else always have trouble remembering how much your total subscriptions are?

Chances are, like many, you are subscribed to some subscriptions that you’ve totally forgotten about. According to WMG, many of us largely underestimates how many subscriptions we have. These tricky expenses are constantly coming out of your bank account monthly automatically and are so easy to slip your mind.

Thus, this spread will be SUPER useful in finding out what your actual spending is.

4. TRACKER – LAST I…

This tracker was created because I wanted to keep track of when I have last done something. It is extra useful for people who have chores that might not be done daily. For instance, keeping track of when you last changed the toothbrush, cleaned the fridge out, changed the curtains.

For the ladies, instead of creating a period tracker, you may also choose to use this spread instead!

5. TRACKER – PASSWORD HINTS

Passwords are supposed to be the most secure thing on the Internet. With the requirements coming across the different websites, it can be difficult to keep track of them. Especially for a forgetful soul like me. How many of you have numerous “Forget your Password” emails in your inboxes. Yeah, tell me about it.

Since this is so very important, it is crucial to annotate your password somewhere lest you forget it. Except, if your BUJO falls into the wrong hands, it can be highly dangerous for you.

This is why, in this BUJO spread, instead of writing the password, I’ve opted to put in a Password hint instead. However, your hints should be simple enough for you to decode, otherwise, it defeats the purpose of this spread. That way, your details will still be safe even if any busybodies peek at your journal.

6. TRACKER – LIBRARY

One of my favourite spreads which I created this time around was this library. The idea behind this was similar to the experience of checking out a book from a library. Each paper will contain the Title, Author, Date Completed and a Mini-Review of the book.

How this works: For books that I want to read, I will fill up the Title and Author on the paper and put it under the “To Read” Section. I will fill up the rest of the details on the paper as I go through the book. After finishing the book, I will transfer the paper to the “Read” Section.

Tip: I put up two slots for each section as I didn’t want my BUJO to become too thick on one side of the page.

7. BUCKETLIST – SINGAPORE, AUSTRALIA AND ABROAD

One of the things I hope to do is to travel once more when the travel becomes a norm after the COVID-19 pandemic situation improves. However, I am stuck in my own home country for the time being. As such, I hope to use the opportunities to be a tourist in my own country while compiling a list of places I want to visit when the travel bans are lifted.

8. SELF-CARE – ABOUT ME

An interesting addition to my spreads this time is the About me spread. I don’t know about anyone else but I do find it sad when I don’t really know what my personal favourites are. So, this spread was curated to help me discover who I am at this stage of my life. When I look back, it will be quite interesting to see how much I’ve changed over the years.

I’ve included the following:

  1. Basic details about myself
  2. What the tests I did tell me I am
  3. Some of my all-time favourites and current favourites
  4. A bit more about my ENFP Personality type
  5. A small reminder of what I’m proud of and gratitude. As well as my fears and the improvements that I would like to make in my life. I found this from Reflect with Raksha on Youtube. In her 2021 BUJO setup, she talked about incorporating this spread into her journal. For more detail, read this post.

Definitely worth it if you want to find out more about yourself! You’ll be surprised how much you don’t know.

9. SELF-CARE – AFFIRMATIONS

One of the most important things that I hope to incorporate into my daily life is affirmations. Having an affirmation helps you become much more confident and ready to pull through anything that comes your way.

The Self-care list comes in handy for occasions when you are feeling stressed out or just looking to relax. These are more actionable and tangible things to relax quickly. Remember to take a rest, you are not a robot!

10. SELF-CARE – MORNING AND NIGHT ROUTINE

Another way to help set the tone to the start and end of the day. I’m sure I don’t have to talk about how a morning routine can help to have a great start to the day without rushing and a night routine to end the day with a night of good sleep for the next day.

Just having a routine helps the body and mind to adjust to its situation so I’ve included it here in case you wanted to start one.

11. SELF-CARE – PERIOD TRACKER

My girls, you know how important this tracker is! Monitoring your cycle is always an important thing so you can plan your schedule around this pesky chore. Alternatively, as mentioned earlier, you can include this with your “Last I…” Tracker (Point 4).

It is also very important whenever you have any medical appointments.

I’ve chosen to include some doodles of things that make me feel more comfortable in this uncomfortable period. No pun intended.

Need I say more?

12. SELF-CARE – THE LITTLE THINGS

Taking care of yourself is so important and so is knowing what makes you happy! So any time you are down, you know what will cheer you right up! This can act as a little doodle page or even just a list as you re-discover some of the things that make you happy.

Some of my all-time favourite is, watching my favourite movie, “The Devil Wears Prada”, listening to music, burning a candle or simply having some chocolate. What are yours?

Remember, you don’t need every single one of these spreads. Even I don’t know if I need them. Your needs may change from month to month, year to year. After all, BUJO-ing is all about taking time to experiment and find out what works for you! Isn’t that magical?

And there you have it, all the spreads you may want to incorporate into your new BUJO setup. It does seem like a lengthy list but you don’t need every single one of these. I hope this post had helped you in your journey of migrating into a new journal and if you have any questions, do comment down below!
