DORAEMON’S TIME TRAVELLING ADVENTURES EXHIBITION

by | Dec 22, 2020 | LIFESTYLE, SINGAPORE, TRAVEL | 0 comments

The Doraemon exhibition was one that brought back so many childhood memories.

Who else remembers waking up early every weekend, just to watch it on Channel 8 at 9:30am (one of Singapore’s Chinese Channel). I know I did, as I huddled with my sister on a couch which was way too big for the both of us.

This Doraemon exhibition was held at the National Museum of SIngapore and has been drawing crowds for the last few months.

It was a nice little adventure amid the pandemic. Be rest assured that all safety precautions were put in place to ensure social distancing.

This exhibition is beyond just the front of the museum where there are 842598754 million people taking photos to leave a memory. Throughout the entire museum, we discovered the little blue cat.

After seeing the crowd for the famous time-travelling door, we opted to head inside first to beat the heat of sunny Singapore.

We got our free museum tickets (since we were both students and Singaporeans), and explored the second floor.

Since some of the figurines are situated around the museum amongst their permanent exhibition, it was a huge blast from the past. Highly fitting for a Doraemon exhibition which is related to time travelling!

It was so good to bask in nostalgia as we see Singapore’s progress over the last 50 years. There was even a place where visitors can sit to watch a film about some of the activities and places of interest which are no longer around. Examples include New World, open air cinemas.

Apart from that, we also saw exhibits about the toys which children of the past played with. Five stones, Rubber Band Skipping Ropes (Yes, they were entirely made out of rubber bands!). Note: there is one Doraemon in this exhibition!

And we decided to sit for just a bit after walking around the museum.

We also headed towards the time period of the Japanese occupation, it was a highly sad period for Singapore as we looked at the different artefacts left behind.

There was an exhibition which began on the 2nd Floor, over in the next block. There was a use of projectors to simulate flowers and leaves following around you. It was such a beautiful sight. As you continue on the path, it will lead to the images of the animals living in nature. Some of them were so adorable!

Finally, we will reach the other exhibits on the people who were living in Singapore post war where there are about 6 Doraemon figurines we discovered!

As you exit the place, there is a queue next to the gift shop, to enter another room to meet 2 larger Doraemon figurines.

So be sure to explore the permanent exhibitions instead of only hunting for the Doraemons!

Finally, we exited the place and joined the queue for all the Doraemons which were in the front. Some are more popular than the rest so do be strategic when y’all are choosing the figurines to take photos with.

Tip: To avoid queuing for every single Doraemon, we did not take photos in order. As long as one of the figurines had no other visitor, we immediately seized the opportunity and headed there.

Although the Doraemon’s Time-Travelling Adventures Exhibition was only until 27 December 2020, the rest of the exhibits mentioned, are still around for you to explore!
